Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! I have been known as Showreelmedia ever since i started doing weddings but in the last year or so i've wanted to personalise the service a little bit more so clients know exactly who they are dealing with. For that reason i have re-branded as dKane Films. I still film the same great films, I still have my great support team of second shooters Ale, Dani and the other Duncan. It's only the name that has changed. If you see the odd sample with Showreelmedia on it, that's why.
First of all it is not about the quality of shots we film on the day. Regardless of package or edit type we try and film the most beautiful film we can on the day. Having 2 operators helps as one can get the basics allowing the other to get even more creative but that is independent of edit type.
It really is about structure. The traditional edit is set out in chronological order from start to finish (often called a documentary edit). It is based around montages set to a musical background. The live action parts of the movie like the Ceremony and speeches have no music and are show in their entirety. These films could last up to 2 hours if you have a long ceremony or speeches. Optionally they are finished with a Highlights sequence or a trailer showing the best parts of the day. You can see a sample here.
The Cinematic edit is what is called a short-form edit. The actual movie lasts between 15 and 20 minutes and we painstakingly breakdown all of the live audio from the ceremony and speeches, chop them up and put them back together in a way that tries to tell the story of the couple and their day. All of the video images and music are blended around these sound bytes. In this type of edit it is the story that decides the structure not the clock so we can mix images from all parts of the day. It makes for a much more engaging viewing experience. You DON'T miss anything as we still use all the shots we want to use - they just might be in a different order. It makes complete sense when you see one. In addition you still get the full Ceremony, speeches and first dance as separate items. Here's an example of a Cinematic edit (remember the full ceremony, speeches and first dance will also be presented. just not in the same video file.)
Remember you still get the full ceremony, speeches and first dance as separate files. You don't really miss any footage, it is just faster paced. The short form edit takes much longer to do than a traditional style edit but it much more fun to watch. Our clients tell us they watch it again and again, rather than putting it on a shelf never to be seen
That's not a problem, every film is delivered with a full multi-cam edit of the ceremony, speeches and first dance on the USB and our new Wedflow platform, in addition to the short form movie. You don't miss a thing.
The Cinematic movie often works best with a more orchestral score than with Ed Sheeran but you are the boss and we can use any music you like. If we as a company are put a clip online then, for legal reasons, we need to use Royalty Free Music (which you can choose yourself from the music subscription service we use). For the USB we pay a licence so that you can choose WHATEVER music you want. Online we can't and have to use Royalty free music which is why you may not recognise the music used in the samples.
All of films are delivered in beautiful custom designed USBs in designer USB presentation boxes. This way we can guarantee you view your film at it’s highest quality. We can also put movies and trailers online so your friends can see them as soon as they are done. We have also just launched our new Wedflow platform that lets you view your films on any of your devices and gives you access to your films online. If anything happens to your USB you can simply download your files again and away you go.
The main movie will be between 15 minutes and 20 minutes long for a Cinematic edit. We try to keep it to around 15 a that way we can keep the pace up but it can get longer sometimes depending on the structure of your day. For a Traditional edit it depends on how long the ceremony and speeches last as it shows them in their entirety.
Delivery time vary quite a bit depending on the time of the year. March weddings can often get their film within a couple of weeks. Most of our films will be shot from May to August so if you are an end of August wedding you'll probably have the longest wait as the queue will be largest then. It takes around 1 week to edit each film so we quote delivery times between 4 and 18 weeks, depending on the date of the wedding and how many we have on the books.
It kind of depends. With one operator we usually use 2 cameras for the ceremony, speeches and first dance but If needed we will use three. With two operators we use 3 cameras as standard but, again, we'll use more if we think it helps the film. For the rest of the day, moving around, we shoot with one camera each. With two operators one will shoot tighter shots with a telephoto and the other will shoot wide angled shots or use a camera on a gimbal for fluid moving shots. With only one shooter we tend to alternate between a wide camera and one with a telephoto for speed.
No, especially if all events take place in the same place. An extra trained operator can really boost the amount of footage we can get on the day though. It allows one operator to make sure all the essentials are covered giving the other some licence to be more creative. In our experience it’s less of an issue when everything is in the one location. When there’s a church then a hotel then there’s twice as much packing and setting up so with 2 operators once can keep filming whilst the other does the grunt work. For winter weddings you have less light and so less time to play with. A second operator can really help tease the maximum out of the shortened daylight.
How long we are there depends on which package you choose. For Traditional we film as standard from 1 hour before the ceremony until the first dance.
For the Cinematic packages as standard we film bridal prep and then we film pretty much everything up until we leave, except for during dinner. So every Cinematic shoot will include Bridal prep, guests arriving, Ceremony, Photoshoot, candid guest shots, cake cutting, speeches and first dance then the first hour of dancing. With the Cinematic Plus package we film until the buffet (usually around 2 hours after the first dance). All these things can be tailored to suit you though. If you don't want prep - no problem, we'll chop a little off the price for example. Or we can give you a price for filming the whole night. it's up to you.
We are way past HD cameras and film everything in 4K (which is 4 times the resolution of full HD) with large sensor cinema cameras for best quality and creativity. This gives the absolute best quality and flexibility, even when the delivery is full HD. If you take the 4K delivery option then you get two presentation USBs. One with the files in full HD and one with the movies in 4K. In that case it can be handy to know that each frame of the 4K film is almost an 8Mb photo. Handy if you want to supplement the shots from your photographer.
First thing couples usually do is an availability check. If we are free we will work with you to help you choose the coverage that's best for you. All of our systems are online so we will send you an electronic quote. Should you wish to book the quote comes with a link so you can make the booking, pay the deposit and sign the contract all online.
The deposit / booking fee is £250 and the balance is due to be paid 4 weeks before the wedding
